Choosing a good family holiday can be hard work – so here are a few pointers to guide you
With a large family or fussy eaters you might be well advised to look at all inclusive holidays which comprise of all meals, drinks and snacks.
On an all inclusive holiday, if your little darling drops an ice cream moments after you have bought it, then you can replace it easily without a tantrum! Or if they are fussy eaters you won’t have to keep putting your hand in your pocket when they refuse to eat what you have just ordered!
Many all inclusive resorts offer good entertainment so your little ones will have plenty to keep them occupied with activities varying from face painting through to football academies. Usually the higher quality the hotel, the broader the spectrum of entertainment.
If you need child care for children aged less than 4, be aware that quite often they are too young to go into the kids clubs, so you need either a nursery or to be prepared to stay yourself to mind them.
Consider the temperature when choosing your next family holiday. Many destinations have distinct seasons and the success of a family holiday can be really dependent on the weather. For example in October half term Northern Greece would be a huge gamble, as would Majorca, whereas both destinations would be a much safer bet for May Half Term. By contrast the Middle East and Egypt will be utterly scorching in the summer holidays, so make sure your family can handle the heat.
Children have very sensitive skin – so please slap on the cream regularly and use a high enough factor. Chuck out the old stuff from last year – it has a shelf life! Don’t forget to make your treasures wear a hat too – especially if they are prone to being in and out of the water! Sun damage can be very misleading.
What about an adventure holiday? Whether a first time ski holiday, a soft adventure through the likes of Vietnam or an alpine activity holiday there is always more to do than just lie on the beach if that’s not your style. Many reputable family specialist tour operators are well geared up to catering to the needs of young families to experience these things.
Don’t rule out cruising. With somewhere new to explore most days and a variety of ships offering everything from ice rinks to rock climbing walls, teen discos and miniclubs there is sure to be one which will suit your needs.
